Josh is an artist and printmaker who has been involved in creative arts and tee shirt culture for most of his life. His first experience in screen printing came back in the heyday of Mambo from an older friend who was an apprentice printing Mambos iconic imagery. This influence sparked his interest in the process of hand printing and tee shirt design.
Many years later, whilst doing a TAFE screen printing course (mostly so he could use the equipment!), he attended a tour of Signature Prints, a hand printed wallpaper and fabric company that used only water based inks and reproduced the works of legendary Australia designer, Florence Broadhurst. An enquiry about an internships would lead to a role as Signature Prints head printer producing works for the likes of Kate Spade in New York and printing wallpapers which were shipped around the world.
Currently, amidst freelance print and illustration work, Josh continues to pursue his real passion designing and printing small runs of limited edition wearables. He works out of a studio at 107 Projects Redfern and looks forward to collaborating on a Print Shop Pop Up with other printmakers at Cubby Space from the 10th September 2018.
Ross J Laidlaw is a screen printer of things. He’s an artist based in Sydney. For this exhibition he’s posted up some hand printed posters from photos he’s taken, processed in illustrator then hand printed on high quality paper. All are limited edition prints. Amazing works well worth the price tag.
