We welcome old friend and contemporary artist Lynsey McGee to Cubby Space to exhibit her latest collection of work. Showing small format paintings inspired by the Tasmanian midlands and NSW South Coast; Lynsey has broken away from previous larger urban landscapes for this exhibition delivering a digestible format to art collectors for homes or offices. These pieces are a comment on our reliance on smartphone snapshots for memory and explore how oil painting can achieve aspects of visual perception that phone image capture cannot.
Phenomenological : Phenomenology is the study of structures of consciousness as experienced from the first-person point of view. The central structure of an experience is its intentionality, its being directed toward something, as it is an experience of or about some object.
About the Artist
Lynsey McGee is a contemporary painter whose work enters into the on-going discourse between painting and the mediated image and highlights painting’s significance as embodied gesture. Currently a Doctoral candidate at the National Art School in Darlinghurst, her research attempts to synthesise information on visual processing from the cognitive sciences with a more phenomenological approach to the production and reception of painting.
