A sea of colour is scheduled to light up the walls of Cubby Space come mid December! Designer and Artist Néto (aka Renée O’Connell) debuts her googly eyed goldfish in her first Sydney show. Playful in her approach to using mixed media stenciling her characters with aerosol paints, posca and applying background visuals from lace and found textured fabrics which give a soft, romantic feel whilst also remaining quite childlike are techniques that bring her quirky characters to life.
Artist Néto has been active since 2008 in her hometown of Adelaide where she created a street stickering campaign. Living in London in the years prior, inspired by the street art that she witnessed, she started experimenting with aerosol and stenciling. With a handful of independent art shows under her belt, she moved to Sydney 7 years ago to study design and seek creative opportunities otherwise not available in her sleepy home city. She describes her work as whimsical and quirky, hoping the absurdity of her characters bring a smile in these challenging times.
The exhibition opens on the 16th of December and will run for 3 weeks. She will be showcasing pieces which will be available for sale along with postcards so you too can send a swarm of goofy looking goldfish to brighten someone’s day.
